Changes

So much new is happening at our office and we love it! Devon has been hired as our summer student in Jasper and she has already been busy with orientations for new staff and doing outreach at the bars. She is working hard to collect surveys from young adults in Jasper to put together Safe is Sexy 2014!

Having been born and raised in Jasper, Devon is no stranger to the important work HIV West Yellowhead provides to her community and peers. She’s incredibly excited to be working here as she believes sexual health is incredibly important among young adults, and it’s something that many in her peer group don’t think about. After completing her first year in the Theatre Arts program at MacEwan University, Devon is thrilled to bring her performance experience and creativity to such an awesome platform and looks forward to bringing fun, informative events to Jasper this summer.

We have finally hired a staff in Edson and could not be more thrilled to have Sarah working with us. Sarah is a Licensed Practical Nurse who has worked in many community programs helping people live healthier and safer lives. As our Support and Outreach Worker based in Edson, Sarah will be establishing a safe needle disposal program for Hinton, Marlboro, Edson, and Whitecourt. She will be available to support individuals affected by HIV, Hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections to access healthcare and travel assistance, make referrals, and advocate for services and care. We do not yet have office space in Edson so all of Sarah’s work will be outreach in the region. We have a shiny new cell phone where she can be reached by call or text (contact.)

Stay tuned for some new and revamped summer events….
